Adventures in Forest Conservation
In case you’ve never been to our fair city of Portland, OR, Forest Park is one of the largest urban forest preserves in the country, and comprises a large area of Northwest Portland. It stretches for seven miles along the eastern slope of Tualatin Mountains, overlooking the Willamette River. With over 80 miles of trails to be discovered within the city limits, Forest Park is one of Portland’s most beloved places.
We're very lucky that our office here in Portland is so close to Forest Park--just a short 15 minute walk. (It takes slightly longer if you stop at the French bakery on the way, and of course you would.) Alima Pure also gives each employee 16 hours of volunteer time each year to spend supporting the causes we love. A group of us spent an almost-rainless Thursday morning assisting the Forest Park Conservancy with invasive species removal a few weeks ago. This mainly involves traipsing off the Aspen Trail into a beautiful gulley that’s been overtaken with English Ivy, and manually removing said ivy from the trunks of enormous maple trees.
What a beautiful way to spend the morning! If you’re interested in joining a Thursday Work Party, we highly recommend it! We’ll be back on the trail to volunteer soon.
In addition to supporting local efforts like the Forest Park Conservancy, we support 1% For The Planet by donating 1% of our gross sales, not profit, to other grassroots environmental organizations. We've also been carbon neutral for the last 8 years, offsetting 100% of our corporate carbon emissions with contributions to environmental causes. As a Certified B Corporation, we're dedicated to supporting the triple bottom line of people, profit, and planet.
