The Best Makeup for Oily Skin: Natural Makeup
There are so many makeup products on the market today (Can anyone say, “DD cream?” Pretty soon, we’ll run out of letters in the alphabet!) However, with a little bit of preparation, you can quickly simplify the task of finding your ideal makeup routine for your skin type. Are you concerned about moisturizing dry patches or preventing breakouts? Softening lines or making skin glow? For the next few weeks, Alima Pure will be featuring skin “challenges” that mineral makeup can help solve. This week: oily skin.
If you’re not sure if you have oily skin, ask yourself this: Does oil come off your nose, forehead and chin (also known as your T-zone)? Do you have large, visible pores and are prone to breakouts and blemishes? If so, you have oily skin. But fear not, mineral cosmetics are the perfect oily skin makeup.
Generally speaking, oily skin is caused by overactive sebaceous, or oil-producing, glands. Effective management of oily skin begins with a healthy diet and regular skincare routine. Before applying any makeup, wash your face thoroughly twice a day with gentle cleanser designed for oily skin. If you break out often, try one with salicylic acid, which calms down inflamed skin and clears pores that cause acne.
Next, apply a light noncomedogenic (i.e. won’t clog your pores) moisturizer to prep the skin. In the summer, choose one with sun protection or apply a noncomedogenic sunscreen on top. If your skin is very oily, it may feel strange to apply moisturizer, but keep in mind that the only moisture that your skin can create is oil. If your skin needs moisture, which it may if you are using drying cleansers, your skin will try to create moisture for itself, which will mean oilier skin. You may also use a gel-based toner or alcohol-free astringent to bring down the pH of the skin in place of a moisturizer. If you need more oil absorption, you can prep your skin with a mineral primer.
We can no longer view our skin as an impermeable shield against the environment and its elements. Many conventional makeup formulations contain ingredients that may look pretty, but are actually harmful to the skin. By contrast, Alima Pure mineral cosmetics are recommended for oily skin because we only use natural ingredients in our powders. It is excellent for “mattifying” oily skin and minimizing the appearance of large pores while giving you even coverage and a velvety finish. Alima mineral makeup for oily skin also allows your natural glow to shine through without looking too cakey or dull.
Alima mineral powders are also noncomedogenic and provide lasting coverage for even the most stressful days. In fact, we use the clay mineral kaolin in our Balancing Primer Powder to absorb excess oil on the skin. With our Satin Matte Foundation, all you need is a light dusting (remember, a little goes a long way with mineral makeup), brushed from the center of your forehead toward the outer corner of your face. Don’t forget to blend it down your neck, jawline and décolleté to give you an even finish. Finish with our Satin Finishing Powder to set the look.
Having oily skin doesn't mean you have to go without gorgeous coverage. Alima Pure makeup can help your skin look fabulous all day long.
